Senior citizens may receive assistance in preparing their individual income tax returns through Tax-Aide, a service provided by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of LOA Area Agency on Aging, in conjunction with AARP.
Counselors will be available at 11 sites in the Roanoke Valley and Alleghany Highlands, including Botetourt County. Counselors can also make home visits to shut-ins. Tax-Aide continues through April 15.

Va. book festival
The second annual Virginia Festival of the Book will be held March 28-31 in Charlottesville.
This year's festival will include readings, panel discussions, exhibitions and children's programs.

Zoo fund-raiser
``Hibernation Hiatus Vacation Auction,'' Mill Mountain Zoo's winter fund-raiser, will be held Feb. 23 at the Radisson Patrick Henry Hotel.
The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres and jazz by The Cool Daddy O's. A silent auction of donated items will continue until 8 p.m.
Donated items include a New York trip including two tickets for the David Letterman show, audio equipment, a golf-beach-ski resort package and more.
The highlight of the evening will be the auction of donated vacation getaways, hosted by Jim Woltz. One ticket holder will receive a surprise vacation, announced at the end of the evening.
