Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Eddie Vernon and Roxie L. Dishon of Radford. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel, with Mr. C. E. Mannon and the Rev. GROSS, Jessie Johnson, 81, of Roanoke, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ernest Gross; her daughter, Norma J. Teass; a sister, Ethel English, and three brothers, Clarence Stump, Wade Stump and Clyde Stump. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald L. and Janie B. Johnson of Vinton, Donald E. and Cheri A. Johnson and Roger W. and Darlene T. Johnson of Roanoke; a son-in-law, Leo W. Teass of Bedford; also, seven grandsons, four granddaughters, one great-grandson and nine great-granddaughters. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Vinton Chapel Tuesday, February 13, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Robert W. Lanier of Riverdale Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. HANNIFAN, Nancy Bowers, 56, of Radford, passed away Sunday, February 11, 1996 at Radford Community Hospital. She was employed at St. Albans Hospital in Radford. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Radford. Survivors include her husband, John T. Hannifan of Radford; son, Tommy Hannifan of Radford; daughter, Mrs. Debbie McClellan of Radford; three brothers, Randolph Bowers, Herman Bowers, both of Ivanhoe, and Wayne Bowers of Sylvatus; three sisters, Aliah Cox of Radford, Frances Payne and Helen Dunford, both of Ivanhoe; five grandchildren, Brian, Matt, and Sam Hannifan, Caleb and Hannah McClellan. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 13, 1996, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Radford, with the Rev. Joe Burton officiating. Interment will follow in West View Cemetery in Radford. HEAVENER, Irene Allen, 71, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, February 10, 1996, at her home. Born in Montgomery County on April 14, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Bessie Slusser Allen. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sydney B. Heavener. Mrs. Heavener was a retired employee of Electro-Tech Corporation. Surviving are two sons, Nelson Heavener, Martinsville, and James Heavener, Blacksburg; two sisters, Louise Allen and Ella A. Hughes, by of Blacksburg; one brother, Roy Allen and wife, Helen, Roanoke; a sister-in-law, Margarette Allen, Richmond; special nieces, Anne Gordon and husband, George, and Mae Myers and husband, Norman; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 1996, at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jeff Goodwin officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. HOLLAND, Olive Elizabeth, 99, of Salem, died Sunday, February 11, 1996. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Muriel and Randall Gray of Salem, Nina and Ralph Gallion of Salem and Mary Greer of Roanoke; great-nieces and great-nephews, Leah and Charles Kendrick of Salem and Sherry and Jerry Butterworth of Roanoke, also several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. KANDER, George, 70, of Belle Vernon, Pa., died Sunday, February 11, 1996. He was born in Stockdale, Pa., on February 5, 1926, a son of the late John Kander Sr. and Elizabeth Bender Kander. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon. He ha d resided in Belle Vernon for 40 years. He retired in 1988 from the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., where he was a machinist. He was a Signalman for the U. S. Navy during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rose Quintier Kander; one daughter, Linda Kander of Bedford, Pa.; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Ron and Amy Kander of Blacksburg, Va., and two sisters. Friends will be received at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 700 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery
LUCK, Virdie Bitterman, 88, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, February 11, 1996. She was the widow of Dr. Eugene H. Luck, and is survived by a sister, Mrs. Henry Scholz Sr. of Roanoke; a niece, Mrs. Robert E. Lucas of Roanoke, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Ray Nester; two s ons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry Ray and Katrina Nester, Charles Edward Nester; and a granddaughter, Jill Elizabeth Nester, all of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ike and Ida Shoemaker, one brother, Billy Shoemaker, and one grandson, Randall Allen Robertson. Surviving are his wife, Mary Paige Brown Shoemaker, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Alton and Ruth Shoemaker, Rocky Mount, Allen and Nancy Shoemaker, Glade Hill; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Tommy Robertson, Union Hall, Judy and Daniel Hodges, Rocky Mount; eight grandchildren, Rita Shoemaker, Ricky Shoemaker, Melissa Austin, Allison Shoemaker, Kelle Robertson, Keri Robertson, Laura Hodges and Lisa Hodges; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Hodges and Mrs. Garnett Guthrie, both of Rocky Mount. SNIDER, Emory Lee, (``Blackie""), 62, of Gold Bond, died Saturday evening, February 10, 1996, at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Giles County, he was a son of the late Floyd and Lucille Hare Snider, and was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was preceded in death by a son, Barry Snider. Surviving are his wife, Gail Daugherty Snider; three sons, Barney Snider of Gold Bond; Matthew Snider of Rich Creek and Tony Snider of Narrows; three daughters, Lynn Snider of Pembroke, Tammy Bryant of Gold Bond and Leann Page of Linside, W.Va.; three stepsons, Frankie Blankenbecker, Eugene Blankenbecker and David Blankenbecker of Gold Bond; 10 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Olean Church of the Brethren in Gold Bond, with the Rev. Shahn Wilburn and the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Tuck, Bedford, Marshall A. and Caroline Tuck, Moneta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice T. and Tommy Laughon, and Linda T. and Bill Creasey, all of Bedford; a sister, Ruby Goad, Charlottesville. She was born in West Virginia on January 16, 1913, a daughter of the late Charles R. Roberts and Katie Wetzel Roberts. Her husband was the late Henry Albert Woodford. She was retired from Bedford County Memorial Hospital, was a veteran of World War II, and a member of Mentow Baptist Church. She is survived by a granddaughter, Stacy W.
