The only two Pargo's restaurant franchises in the country, both in Western Virginia, have been sold to Nashville-based Shoney's Inc., the chain's parent.
Patricia Green-Wells and her husband, Blacksburg developer Don Wells, this week sold their Roanoke and Christiansburg restaurants after new management at Shoney's Inc. decided to change the direction of its Pargo's division and approached the couple in August about selling their franchises. The staff at the two restaurants will remain.
The major change for customers will be a revamping of the menu, along with those of other Pargo's restaurants.
``We laid the foundation; they're continuing that,'' Green-Wells said.
She would not reveal terms of the sale, but said the franchised restaurants have averaged $2 million in sales each year.
Green-Wells, who was a marketing director when the Pargo's chain was founded in 1983, was the only person permitted to open franchises. She and her husband opened their Christiansburg location in 1990 and the Roanoke restaurant two years later.
To prepare for the ownership change, the Roanoke restaurant will close Monday and Tuesday for staff training. The Christiansburg eatery will be closed Feb. 26 and 27.
