ILLUSTRATION: PHOTO:  BILL COCHRAN    Olin Waldrip reached his goal. Last 
          week, he completed his 100th trips to McAfee Knob, a rock 
          outcropping on the Appalachian Trail in Roanoke County. He did it 
          prior to his 85th birthday on April 2. Each trip, Waldrip has paused
          to carve a notch in his walking stick. The 100th hike for the 
          Brandon Oaks retirement community resident, came on a cold, windy 
          day when he had the knob, as well as his celebration, to himself. 
          ``I just yelled a few times,'' he said. Waldrip's next goal? To 
          complete 200 of the seven-mile round trips by 1999.  ``I gave myself
          three years,'' he said. color.
