Patrick Henry swept the team honors at the Roanoke Valley District track meet held at E.C. Glass in Lynchburg on Saturday.
The boys' team won by 32 points over William Fleming 181-149. Cave Spring finished third with 62 points, Franklin County fourth with 35 and Pulaski County last with three.
The girls' team won by three points over William Fleming 121-118. Cave Spring took third with 95 points, Pulaski County fourth with 31 and Franklin County last with 21.
Raheem Barnwell was the big winner for the Patriots with victories in four events. Leehan Agee won two events for Cave Spring.
In other news:
* VMI catcher Scott Thompkins scored on a passed ball in the first inning, but it was all Auburn after that as the Tigers ripped the Keydets 14-3 in a non-conference baseball game at Auburn on Sunday.
Josh Etheredge collected three RBI for the Tigers (6-0), while Kevin Chabot, Jamie Kersh, Adam Sullivan and Rob Macrory added two apiece as Auburn scored two runs in the first, three in the second, two in the third, three in the fifth and two in the sixth and seventh on 16 hits.
VMI first baseman Nate Shepperson hit into a fielder's choice to score Thompkins again in the third inning. Thompkins finished with two runs on two hits. Louie Napoleon knocked in Dale Moore for the Keydets' (0-6) final run in the sixth.
W.G. Smith (0-2) took the loss, allowing 10 runs on 11 hits with three walks and four strikeouts in 42/3 innings.
* The University of Virginia opened its golf season with a fifth-place tie at the Puerto Rico Golf Classic at Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico.
The Cavaliers tied Wake Forest with a three-round total of 893. Florida easily won the tournament with 864 while Clemson was second, 12 strokes behind.
Lewis Chitengwa was Virginia's low golfer with a 5-over-par 221, which put him in a tie for 12th place. Simon Cooke (223) was tied for 17th and Andrea Brotto (225) finished tied for 23rd.
