Women legislators, female Capitol staff members, even some lawmakers' wives have come together to support a bill that would allow more women direct access to gynecologists.
The bill would allow patients of private health-maintenance organizations to have direct access to gynecologists without first getting permission from their primary-care physicians.
``All we want for women is for them to be able to call their gynecologist and go without getting permission, said Lorna Moss, wife of House Speaker Thomas Moss, D-Norfolk.
Lorna Moss wrote a letter of support to the bill's sponsor after having a tough time getting a referral from her primary-care doctor. She said she avoids legislative matters because they are her husband's purview, but this issue was too important for her to ignore.
