ARTHUR, Dorothy B., 68, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 1996. She was the widow of Earl J. Arthur. Surviving are five sons, Kenneth Arthur of Florida, Jerry Arthur of Belmont, N.C., Danny Arthur and David Arthur, both of Rockingham, N.C., and Mickey Arthur of Charlotte, N.C.; one sister, Mary Wertz of Greenville, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. AUSTIN, Raymond Edwin, 84, of Route 1, Boones Mill, died Tuesday, February 20, 1996, in a Salem hospital. Surviving are his wife, Blanche Rutrough Austin; one son and daughter-in-law, Jose ph (``Shag"") and Emma Austin of Boones Mill; grandchildren, Robert and Missy, Erin, Howard, Victoria, Sonya and Shannon; one great-grandson, Patrick; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charlie and Nannie Austin of Ferrum, and Wilmer and Clara Austin of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one sister and brother-in-law, Janie and Ernest Rutrough of Boones Mill; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ezra and Mary Rutrough of Boones Mill, and several nieces and nephews. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Funeral services will be conducted from Mountain View Old German Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Friday, with the Home Brethren officiating. BROWN, Mary Juanita, 63, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, February 19, 1996. She was a teacher's assistant at Fall on Park Elementary School. She was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church and an active member of the W. C. Hunter choir. Survivors include her husband, Ernest L. Brown; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ernestine and Dr. Alvin Jackson, Memphis, Tenn., Deborah and Spencer Jones, Roanoke; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Laura Brown, Roanoke; four grandchildren, Sharnika and Kimberly Jones, Roanoke, Cullen Jackson, Memphis, Tenn., and Thomas T. Brown, Roanoke; sisters-in-law, Vivian Brown and Mary Ann Anderson, both of Roanoke, and Gwendolyn Anderson, Chicago, Ill; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Jerusalem Baptist Church. Dr. J. Eugene Young will officiate with the interment in Williams Memorial Park. BURCH, Frances Wise, 70, of Buena Vista, died Wednesday, February 21, 1996 at her home. Mrs. Burch was born March 3, 1925 in Amherst County a daughter of the late David Coleson Wise and Lena Curry Wise. She was a member of the Oronoco Church of the Brethren and worked for Lee's Carpets for 25 years. Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Lewis William Burch Sr.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis and Kaseam Burch, Buena Vista, Larry and Dawn Burch, Buena Vista; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Gary Allen, Buena Vista; grandchildren, Chris and Lindsay Burch, Bedford, Therasia and Roong Burket, Albuquerque, N.M., Scott Arie Burch, Chicago, Ill., Timothy Lee Burch, Buena Vista, Lori Ann Burch , Forrest City, N.C., Will Coleson Allen, Andrew Burch and Seth Eli Allen all of Buena Vista; stepgrandchildren, Ryan, Andrew and Kelsey Oler all of Bedford; one great-granddaughter, Kelsey Bibbo, Buena Vista; brother, Clyde Coleson Wise, Madison Heights; sister, Margaret Juanita Wilkins, Newport News. DOWDY, Mabel Turner, 102, of South Roanoke Nursing Home, died Tuesday, February 20, 1996. Mrs. Dowdy was born April 7, 1893 a daughter of the late Fleetwood and Agnes Turner of Ferrum, Va. She was the widow of W. Henry Dowdy and a member of South Roanoke United Methodist Church. She attended Ferrum Training School and National Business College and was associated with Pace Brothers Realty Company for many years. Surviving are a niece, Jeane Roddey of Seattle, Wash.; nephews, Bill Turner and Jerry Turner of Roanoke, Robert Turner of Santa Clara, Calif. HAINES, Irene Elizabeth Wilmer, 64, of Millboro, died Tuesday, February 20, 1996, at the University of Virginia Hospital after an extended illness. She was born in Clifton Forge on July 26, 1931, daughter of the late Rias J. Wilmer Sr. and Christine Doss Wilmer. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by her husband, Donald Lee Haines Sr.; and one son, Donald L. Haines Jr., both of Millboro; one daughter, Debra Sue Luttjohann of Roanoke; one sister, Doris Bocook of Millboro; six brothers, R. J. Wilmer Jr., Edward (Connie) Wilmer, Charles Wilmer, Raymond Wilmer, John Wilmer, and Steve Wilmer, all of Clifton Forge; two grandchildren, Brandy Martinez and Chrissy Luttjohann; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, 2 p.m., at Nicely Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William C. Mattox Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Central Advent Christian Cemetery. HORNBARGER, Harold E., (``Bud''), 57, of Richmond, died Tuesday, February 20, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Lois Hornbarger; two daughters, Tammy Driscoll and Kate Phipps, of Mechanicsville; a son, Scott Hornbarger, of Richmond; three grandchildren, Amber and Callie Hornbarger, and Austin Phipps; a sister, Vicki Brillheart; a brother, David Dalton; mother and stepfather, Pauline and Cecil Dalton, all of Radford; father, George S. Hornbarger, of San Diego, Calif.; uncle, Merle Hornbarger, of Christiansburg; and many close friends. Mr. Hornbarger was a member of Babcock Lodge #322 A.F. & A.M.. He served in the Air Force for four years, and coached little league in the Richmond area for over 25 years. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 E. HURST, Samuel Norwood Jr., 84, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 1996 at his home. He was a member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church, and a retired employee of C&P Telephone Company, with 42 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Lois Miles Hurst; two sons, Andrew N. Hurst, David M. Hurst; three grandsons, Andrew N. Hurst, Jr., William David Hurst, Joseph Daniel Hurst, all of Roanoke; two sisters, Evelyn Sherwood, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Alliene Mezzele, Inverness, Fla. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel, 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. William B. Ramey Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. JOHNSON, Velma Crook, 80, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, February 20, 1996. She was preceded in death by her parents, John R. and Mary Sink Crook and brother, How ard Crook. She was a member of Belmont United Methodist Church for over 67 years and is survived by her husband, Woodrow W. (Woody) Johnson; her son and daughter in law, Kenneth W. and Helen L. Johnson; grandchildren, Sarah, Anna Ruth, Kenneth Jr., Wilson, Elizabeth and Eleanor Johnson, all of Roanoke; brother, Roy H. Crook and wife Edna, Roanoke; sisters, Ruth Martin and husband, Frank of Sun City, Fla., Gracie Lee of Roanoke; sister-in-law, Lorene Crook Harman of Radford; four nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Belmont United Methodist Church by the Rev. Harold Fuss and the Rev. Frank Feather with burial in Sherwood Memorial Park. KESLER, Raymond William, Jr., 48, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, February 21, 1996, at the UVA Hospital, Charlottesville. He was employed at HSN Fulfillment Center, and was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Walker Kesler Sr. He is survived by one son, Scott D. Kesler, Lynchburg; his mother, Ora Jean Kesler, Salem; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronnie D. Kesler, Salem, Donnie L. and Lynn Kesler, Roanoke, and Jimmy and Brenda Austin, Troutville; a sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Skip Shelor, Salem; four special nieces and one nephew. KITTINGER, Claude D. Jr., (``Buster""), 74, of Roanoke County, died Tuesday, February 20, 1996. He as an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Edith L. Kittinger; sons and daughter-in-law, Claude D. (Danny) Kittinger III, Stephan W. and Lisa C. Kittinger; granddaughter, Katelyn Elizabeth Kittinger; brothers and sisters, Keith R. Kittinger, Alonza A. MULLINS, Guy Johnny, 74, of 27 Duncan Dr., Peterstown, W.Va., died Saturday, February 17, 1996 in the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, Va. He was born at Iaegar, W.Va. on November 11, 1921 and was the son of the late David Crockett and Mary Elizabeth Jones Mullins. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member and past commander of the V.F.W. Post #6000 of Narrows, Va. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy B. Mullins of Bridgeton, N.J.; a son, David Mullins, Vineland, N.J.; daughters, Cynthia Jensen, Peterstown, W.Va., Mary Nagy, Columbus, Ga., Judy Henzick, Beaumont, Texas; a brother, Wilson Mullins, Bridgeton, N.J.; and a sister, Bertie Mae Harris, Las Vegas, Nev.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. The family will gather with their friends at Riffe's Funeral Service, Narrows on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. The body will be cremated and returned to Bridgeton, N.J. at a later date. She was the wife of Baxter Lee Thompson, who preceded her in death in 1992. WALKER, Billy Wayne, 49, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 1996. He was born December 12, 1946 in Bedford County, a son of the late Jessie M. Walker and Cathrine Webber Walker. He was an employee of J. M. Turner Construction Company. He is survived by his wife, Cathie Robertson Walker; a daughter, Susan Lynette Walker, Bedford; a sister, Martha W. Mrs. White was born in Giles County on December 8, 1915, and was a daughter of the late John Perkins and Fannie Sartin Perkins. Mrs. White was the widow of Woodrow White. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Teresa White of Salem, James and Gay White of Salem; two daughters, Linda Shepherd of Salem, Sue Cox, and special friend, Chris Christian of Calverton; one brother, Elmer E. Perkins of Pearisburg; three sisters, Pauline Gordon of Pearisburg, Virginia Holt of Pearisburg, Frances Kingrea of Elkridge, Md.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. WILSON, Samuel Thomas, 86, of Dublin, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 1996 at Wheatland Hills Retirement Center. He was a member of the Dublin United Methodist Church, Henry Clay Masonic Lodge #280 A.F. & A.M., and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a longtime member of the Dublin Ruritan Club, a member of the Dublin Vol. Fire Dept, and a member of the New River Valley Recreation, Inc.. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Lester Wilson; parents, James and Lillian Nester Wilson; two brothers, Carl and Darrell Wilson; two sisters, Helen Wilson and Bessie Williams. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. B. G. (Laura Wilson) Petroff of Moorestown, N.J., and Deborah W. Smith of Dublin; three brothers, Bill Wilson of Lutz, Fla., Jim Wilson of Radford, and Ray Wilson of Parrott; three sisters, Neta Albright of Radford, Mae Legg of Columbus, Ga., and Althea Moran of Shawsville; two grandsons, Thomas George Petroff and Andrew Paul Smith.
