Barker Realty Co.'s Wayne Goodman earned this year's Santa Award from the Roanoke Regional Home Builders Association Inc. for collecting 432 toys for Toys for Tots.
Goodman collected 100 more toys than the entire association collected last year. The association donated a record 1,025 toys.
This was the second year in a row that Goodman earned the Santa Award for his dedication to the spirit of the charitable event run by the U.S. Marine Corps.|
Elf Awards, for donating the second and third largest number of toys, went to Lew Jamison of Heritage Builders Ltd. with 145 toys and Jeff Owens of Owens & Co. Realtors with 85 toys.
Blue Ridge Council of the Boy Scouts of America earned a good citizenship award from Winn-Dixie Inc. for service to the community.|
The award, which includes a certificate and a cash donation, was established 12 years ago in an effort to recognize the efforts of those who serve young people in the community. Thirty-seven groups in North Carolina and Virginia accepted awards this year. The cash awards totaled more than $85,000.
