A James Madison University student was in critical condition Thursday after being diagnosed with meningococcal meningitis.
Kathryn S. Senner, 22, a senior health sciences major from Arlington, was taken to the emergency room at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, then to the University of Virginia Hospital, on Wednesday.
Students who live in her apartment building at 437 S. Mason St. were asked to report to the University Health Center. Antibiotics may be administered to those who have had close contact with Senner.
Symptoms of meningitis include high fever, severe headache, stiff neck and skin rash, and students experiencing any of these are asked to report to the University Health Center or Rockingham Memorial.
The university has set up a hot line to handle questions. Call (540)924-2113.
