LAUREL PARK PIEDMONT CHAMPION

Rashad Wall pumped in 29 points to lead Laurel Park to a 53-49 victory over Patrick County in the championship game of the Piedmont District basketball tournament Saturday in Bassett.

Laurel Park, the sixth seed, outscored Patrick County, the fourth seed, by three points in the fourth quarter.

Ray Hylton led Patrick County with 17 points.

Covington Boys Home 82, Winston-Salem 49: The Indians trailed by three after one quarter then blew by the Winston-Salem Children's Home for the victory in Covington.

Nebiyu Naod and Freddy Portillo led Covington Boys Home (13-13) with 18 points each.

Girls

Roanoke Valley Christian 61, Grace Christian 44: Freshman Gina Guthrie scored 21 points to lead three scorers in double figures as Roanoke Valley Christian knocked off Grace Christian to win the Blue Ridge Conference tournament championship at Roanoke Catholic.

The championship was the Eagles' first title in any girls' sport.

Guthrie had seven steals to go with her 21 points. Freshmen Rebecca Bryant added 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Rebecca Lockhart chipped in 10 for the Eagles (19-2).

Grace Christian was led by Krista Summers, who scored 21 points, and Erica Wall, who added 10.
