ACTRESS PATRICIA NEAL TO SPEAK ON STROKES

Academy Award-winning actress Patricia Neal will speak on surviving stroke Friday at the Bristol Regional Medical Center from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. The event is open to doctors, medical staff members and the public.

Her visit was made possible through the center and American Heart Association, seeking ways to raise public awareness of heart and stroke information. Admission to her speech is free.

"It is vital that people understand more about heart and stroke. By having Miss Neal in our community, we hope to have people ask questions and become more aware about their health," said Eddie A. George, president and chief executive officer of the medical center. The program will be in the center's conference room.

Neal performed early in her career at Barter Theatre in nearby Abingdon, and is a star of stage, screen and television. In 1964, during her fifth pregnancy, she suffered a series of strokes that left her partly paralyzed. After the birth of her child, she began a successful struggle through years of rehabilitation.

Neal will also be the guest of honor at the American Heart Association's Queen of Hearts gala sponsored March 2 by the Bristol Association of Life Underwriters.
