UNITED HOLY CHURCH STATE FOUNDER DIES

Bishop Thomas E. Talley, president of the United Holy Church of America since 1992 and founding president of the black Pentecostal denomination's Virginia Diocese, has died.

Talley, who died Wednesday, also was a retired Norfolk Naval Shipyard employee and a former Portsmouth School Board member.

He was pastor of Gospel Light United Holy Church in Newport News for 49 years and pastor of Twine's Memorial Holy Temple in Portsmouth for 32 years.

He served as Virginia Diocese president for 25 years and was secretary to the Board of Bishops, general second vice president and vice president before his election as president of the 110-year-old denomination.
