A Christiansburg man was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison for convictions of committing sodomy and aggravated sexual battery on a young girl.
Myron J. "Mike" Macomber, 45, has been in jail since October 1994. That's when Christiansburg police charged him with the offenses, after an investigation of the girl's complaints. The girl spoke up about the abuse after seeing a school program on good touches and bad touches.
The play, "Hugs and Kisses," educates children on how to identify sexual abuse and tells them what to do if they are being abused. It was presented by the Child Abuse Prevention Coalition.
Judge Ray Grubbs imposed 15-year prison sentences for each of two sodomy convictions and a five-year sentence for the sexual battery offense, for a total of 35 years in prison. But he suspended 15 years of the sentence. After serving 20 years, Macomber will be placed on probation for five years.
Conditions of his sentence are that he receive counseling and that he not have any unsupervised contact with children.
Last July the girl, now 9 years old, testified that Macomber had sexually assaulted her in a variety of ways, often in a basement room of his house, his "getaway room" where he kept his videos and sex toys.
