YMCA Open University registration
BLACKSBURG - The YMCA Open University will begin registration on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at University Mall; Wednesday, March 6, from noon to 6 p.m. at Christiansburg Public Library; Wednesday, March 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Virginia Tech Warm Memorial Gym; and Thursday, March 7 and Friday, March 8, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at YMCA Open University Office, 403 Washington St., Blacksburg.

Blacksburg Classic run on Saturday
BLACKSBURG - The Blacksburg Striders will sponsor the Blacksburg Classic run on Saturday at Virginia Tech's Rector Field House. The five kilometer run and 10 mile run begin at 9:30 a.m. A one mile Fun Run-Walk begins at 10:15 a.m.
Sponsors include Blacksburg Striders, GTE Mobilnet, Mish Mish and Sportshack. The Pizza Hut Post-Race Party is sponsored by GTE Mobilnet.

Workshop looks at child discipline
BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech Resource and Referral Services will be offering a free workshop which explores positive discipline techniques for young children. The workshop, "Why Do You Do The Things You Do?", presented by social worker Debbie Schneller is for family day care providers, directors of child care programs, teacher, assistants and other people who work with young children in group settings.
The workshop will be held on Thursday, April 14, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., in the Community Room of the New River Valley Mall.

Registration for Radford kindergarten
RADFORD - Radford City Schools will conduct their annual Kindergarten registration at McHarg Elementary School on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Parents may register children who will be five years old on or before Sept. 30, 1996. Benefit contra dance has been rescheduled
BLACKSBURG - WomenWork, the all-women group that will build a house for a low-income family through New River Valley Habitat for Humanity, has rescheduled its benefit contra dance to Friday, March 15, from 8 to 11 p.m., at the Blacksburg Community Center on Patrick Henry Drive. Admission is free but donations will be accepted.

Development workshop planned
BLACKSBURG - "Building Stronger Working Relationships, a professional development workshop, is scheduled for Wednesday, March 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Donaldson Brown Hotel and Conference Center in Blacksburg. A second workshop will be held at the Hotel Roanoke Conference Center on March 27.
The workshop is sponsored by the Virginia Cooperative Extension Support Staff Association and co-sponsored by Federal Mogul, Heritage Hall Nursing Center and Hubbell Lighting. Speakers from Virginia Tech and the Virginia Department of Personnel and Training will address social, family and workplace diversity.

Counseling workshop explores spirituality
BLACKSBURG - Chi Sigma Iota, an international honor society for counselor educators, students and professionals will present a workshop, "Counseling for Spirituality." The workshop is Friday, March 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Donaldson Brown Hotel and Conference Center at Virginia Tech. The workshop is for counselors, therapists, theologians and students.
The cost is $25.
