Salem Dixie League sign-ups begin

The Salem Department of Parks and Recreation will hold sign-ups for Dixie League baseball and softball Saturday and March 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the James Moyer Sports Complex.

Boys ages 6 to 14 and girls ages 6 to 15 are eligible.

The entry fees is $20 for one child, $15 for the second child, and $10 for a third child. Birth certificates are required for registration.

Schools to offer SAT prep course

Roanoke city schools will offer a preparatory course for those planning to take the 1996 Scholastic Assessment Test.

The six four-hour sessions will begin March 16 and continue each Saturday through April 27, skipping April 13, at City School, 107 Church Ave. S.W.

Volunteers needed to restore rail equipment

The Virginia Museum of Transportation is seeking volunteers to help with an extensive restoration program, including work on locomotives and rail equipment, automobiles, trucks and many unusual small transportation items.
