Comedy performance

BLACKSBURG - Playmakers and the Blacksburg chapter of the American Association of University Women are sponsoring a performance of Martin Downing's comedy "House of Frankenstein," on Friday, Mar. 15, 1996.

Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the Weight Club at University Mall, Blacksburg, or by calling Ida Comparin at 552-8844.

This benefit is to raise money for AAUW's award for New River Valley's public school teacher of the year.

Open house

BLACKSBURG - The Blacksburg Seniors' Association's open house for the new senior center at 725 Patrick Henry Drive, Blacksburg, is Thursday, March 7, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Hospice training

CHRISTIANSBURG - New River Valley Hospice will be holding training sessions for new volunteers March 12 and every Tuesday for ten weeks from 2:30 to 5 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall of the Grove United Methodist Church at 1020 Tyler Ave., Radford.

New River Valley Hospice is a non-profit, Medicare certified, community-based, licensed health care agency which provides care to people with terminal illnesses and to their families.

Trained volunteers are needed in home care, bereavement care, fundraising and office support. New River Valley Hospice serves Montgomery, Giles, Floyd and Pulaski Counties and the City of Radford.

Hospice training is free and open to the community.

Apartment registration

BLACKSBURG - The Planning and Engineering Department is currently conducting its annual registration of accessory apartments.

If you own property with an accessory apartment and have not received a registration form, please call Duane Hyde at 961-1114 or e-mail him at dkhydebev.net.

Registration forms may also be picked up at the Planning and Engineering Departments located in the Blacksburg Municipal Building at 300 South Main Street.

The deadline for registration is March 25.

After prom info

RADFORD - "Community Speaking," the Radford University public affairs program, will air Radford and Christiansburg after prom party information on Channel 9 beginning Sunday at 6 p.m.

The show is aimed at eliminating needless deaths and injuries from alcohol and drug related causes on prom night.

The show will also air Tuesdays at 5 p.m., Wednesdays at 12 p.m. and Thursdays at 7 p.m.

WTOB party

BLACKSBURG - WTOB Channel 2 is celebrating its 10 year anniversary on March 15 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The party will be held at the Five Chimney's Studio on the corner of Washington St. and Draper St. directly behind the Municipal Building.

The station will be hosting tours, demonstrations and workshops to encourage people to get involved.

The party is free to the public and food will be served.

Technicon 13

Attention, science fiction fans.

Technicon 13 will return to Blacksburg this spring featuring games, panel discussions, a masquerade and more.

The convention, the longest running sci-fi convention in Southwest Virginia, will be held March 22-24 at the Best Western Red Lion Inn.

Guests include author L.E Modesitt, designer and writer Jennifer Hartshorn, game designer Ian Lemke and computer game designers Lori and Corey Cole.

Technicon offers a variety of events and activities including a dealer's room, dance, art show and auction, and an amateur film festival.

This year, the event features two full-length live action games, "Rights of Passage" and "Where the Shadows Lie".

Admission at the door will be $24 for the general public, $20 for students and $15 for Virginia Tech students. One-day admission will be $14 for the public and $12 for students. Children under 18 qualify as students.

Pre-registration for the first live-action game will be $8 until March 1 and $10 at the door.

The convention is accepting entries for the film festival.

Chili supper

BLACKSBURG - The Blacksburg High School football team will sponsor a chili supper on Saturday, March 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the high school commons area. The menu includes chili, cole slaw, crackers, dessert and a drink.

Tickets are $3.50. Proceeds offset season expenses.
