BOTETOURT BRIDGE TO BE WIDENED

Work will begin this month to widen a bridge on Virginia 654 in southern Botetourt County near the road's intersection with U.S. 11.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board has awarded a $275,000 contract for the work to Charles W. Barger & Son Construction Co. of Lexington.

The bridge will be widened to accommodate increased traffic in the area, as well as school buses.

The work is expected to last through the summer.

The board also has awarded contracts for bridge work on Virginia 122 over Stoney Creek and Virginia 661 over the Norfolk Southern Railway tracks in Bedford County, and on Virginia 810 over the West Fork of the Little River in Floyd County.
