Two Timesland teams hope to bring back state volleyball championships from Forest this weekend.
In the Group AA tournament, William Byrd (18-2) will take on Waynesboro (26-0) at Jefferson Forest High School at 8:30 p.m. today. The other semifinal has host Jefferson Forest (23-0) battling Handley (19-4) at 7:30 p.m. Jefferson Forest is the Region III champion over Byrd.
In Group A competition at 4 p.m. today, Northwood (20-4) battles Central Woodstock (20-3). After that game, George Wythe (22-3), the Region C runner-up, takes on Stuarts Draft (16-2).
The Group A championship game starts at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, with the Group AA battle to follow.

Mary Washington scored four runs in the eighth inning to break open a close game and beat Washington and Lee 6-1 on Thursday in a non-conference college baseball game in Fredericksburg.
Chris Wright drove in two runs, and Kevin Losty (1-0) pitched 72/3 innings to pick up the victory for the Eagles (3-0). Greg Fantuzzi went 2-for-3 for the Generals (2-4).
Roanoke's Carolyn Bucher, who swims for the Brandon Blue Waves, won the 1,000-yard freestyle at the Florida Senior Champs swim meet in Clearwater.
Bucher won the event in a time of 10 minutes, 16.03 seconds and qualified for the junior national meet next week in Nashville, Tenn.
Meredith Newby was the top Virginia Tech finisher Thursday at the Fast Times track and field meet in Gainesville, Fla., finishing third in the 20-pound weight throw with a school-record toss of 52 feet, 41/2 inches. The top men's finisher for the Hokies was Justin Davis, who placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:50.92.
