Virginia will be in a familiar position as the top seed when it begins play at 2:30 p.m. today in the ACC women's basketball tournament.
The Cavaliers (22-5 overall, 13-3 ACC) will meet No.9 Florida State, a 64-51 winner over Georgia Tech in Thursday night's play-in game.
UVa has been seeded first in each of the past five seasons, but has won the tournament only twice during that span, in 1992 and '93. The Cavaliers twice were eliminated in the semifinals.
Virginia senior Wendy Palmer on Thursday was named ACC player of the year for the second consecutive year and was joined by the Cavaliers' Tora Suber on the All-ACC first team. UVa freshman Demya Walker was an ACC All-Rookie selection.
The Cavaliers, ranked eighth, enter the tournament on a five-game winning streak.
