RVC GIRLS UPSET IN STATE TOURNEY

Stephanie Wheeler scored 20 points and Lindsay Newman added 15 as fifth-seeded Fredericksburg Christian upended fourth-seeded Roanoke Valley Christian 52-43 on Thursday in the first round of the Virginia Independent Schools girls' basketball tournament.

Rebecca Bryant scored 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to pace Roanoke Valley Christian (19-3), which will play No.8 Holy Cross today at 3:30 p.m. in the consolation round.

Fredericksburg Christian is 21-4.
