ROANOKE VALLEY CHRISTIAN WINS IN GIRLS' TOURNAMENT

Roanoke Valley Christian took control in the second half, overpowering Holy Cross 40-29 on Friday afternoon in the consolation round of the Virginia Independent Schools girls' basketball tournament in Lynchburg.

Gina Guthrie led the way for the Eagles (20-3) with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Rebecca Lockhart added 11 points and Nia Douglas grabbed 11 rebounds.

Marie Gamis provided most of the offense for Holy Cross, scoring 18 points.

RVC plays the winner of Friday night's Lynchburg Christian-Grace Christian game at 11 a.m. today as the consolation bracket continues.
