the present state of race relations in America:
"Today, in the midst of racial crisis, political crisis and economic crisis, we as a people have the privilege of living in the best country in the world. We are also reminded that we have a great stewardship responsibility to share our blessing.
"Both whites and blacks who have achieved much must give much. Many people are unemployed; a jobless people are a restless people.
"Lots of people are homeless, hungry and are among the have-nots. We as a people and country must not become so possessed with greed that we lose our commitment to reach out to the oppressed and dispossessed.
"The founder of the AME Church, Richard Allen, coined the motto: 'God our Father, our Redeemer, Man our Brother.' This motto is viable for today."
