Civil War program planned on public TV

James I. Robertson, Virginia Tech professor and Civil War historian, will be host for the premiere of ``Bitter April: Lee's Retreat Across Virginia'' on Blue Ridge Public Television on March 15 at 9 p.m.

The program traces the last Confederate struggle, focusing on Gen. Robert E. Lee's efforts to hold together the remnants of the Confederate Army. ``Bitter April'' is intertwined with photos, sketches and drawings of the time, interviews and narration.

Based on an idea by Donlan Piedmont, chairman of the Board of Blue Ridge Public Television, the program is made possible in part by the Norfolk Southern Foundation and a community service grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia, with the cooperation of the National Park Service.
