Louis Booker of Patrick Henry dominated the 500-meter run Saturday at the Group AAA indoor track meet, winning by nearly a second at George Mason University.
Booker won in a time of 1 minute, 5.43 seconds. Runner-up Jason Buckley of Great Bridge was second in 1:06.36.
On the strength of Booker's victory, the Patriots finished sixth in the team standings, totaling 19 points. West Springfield won the team title, getting 42 points. (Results in Scoreboard. C10)
Raheem Barnwell of Patrick Henry showed well, placing fifth in the long jump at 22 feet, 8 inches, and coming in sixth in the triple jump at 44-71/2.
The PH 880-meter relay team finished third.
From William Fleming, Waris Wade placed fourth in the 55-meter hurdles in 7.67 seconds. Fleming's 1,600-meter relay team also finished fourth.
Cave Spring's Ben Dowdy came in sixth in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:29.73.
Leading West Springfield to the title was Sharif Karie. He won the 1,600 meters and 1,000 meters, setting a state record in the 1,000 meters (2:28.36).
In the girls' division, Destyne Jones won the 55-meter hurdles, the 55 meters and the long jump - setting a state record in the long jump - to help Centreville to a state title.
Jones' state record in the long jump was 19-8. The previous records were unavailable from the VHSL.
The Robinson girls 3,200-meter relay team set a new state record (9:32.39), as did Bayside's 800-meter relay team (1:43.42).
