VA. WESTERN EDGES WCC

Bruce Jacobs made an inside shot with five seconds left Saturday night to give Virginia Western a 107-105 victory over Wytheville in the Virginia Community College regional basketball tournament in Martinsville.

Virginia Western held for the last shot and worked the ball inside to Jacobs, who converted a short shot for the game-winning points.

Tremayne McHeimer, a former Franklin County player, led the Blue Stars with 26 points. Jacobs and David Ross, former players at Liberty, had 18 and 17 points, respectively. Sam Barrett (Northside) added 18.

Wytheville was led by John Ervin (George Wythe) with 33 points, Jason Ringley with 27 and Jody Burnette (Fort Chiswell) with 20.
