PULASKI COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD ADOPTS GUIDANCE STATEMENT

The first elected Pulaski County School Board has put together a statement of its guiding beliefs and principles. The board adopted the statement at its February meeting, as it began work on the budget for next year.

"The Pulaski County School Board believes schools exist for the education of our children and youth and, through them, for the well-being and future of our community," the board began. "Every decision this board makes will be tested against this statement."

The Pulaski County School Board also believes:

Its primary function is effective instruction resulting in measurable student learning.

Technology can enhance and accelerate skills basic to academic achievement. "We have the responsibility to employ persons who are ready to utilize the technology available and to assist current employees in acquiring and upgrading skills needed to take full advantage of powerful teaching/learning equipment, programs and materials," the board said.

In recognizing individual learning styles of students and the individual teaching styles of teachers.

That the initiation, development, and implementation of programs are best done through a cooperative process which involves every constituency.

Parents are a most valuable resource. They have a responsibility to work with teachers and schools in the education of their children.

In free and frank exchange of ideas and information. "We welcome suggestions and concerns which are conveyed in a constructive, professional manner," the board said.
