BARGER, Lola Medley, 88, of Route 2, Rural Retreat, died Sunday, March 3, 1996 in the Malin Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, George L. ``Jack"" Barger. She is survived by a stepson and daughter-in-law, Donald and Thelma Barger, Huddleston; one sister, Ola M. Umberger, Wytheville; sister-in-law, Margaret Copenhaver, Rural Retreat; stepgrandchildren, Donald R. Barger, Woodbridge, Debra K. Colston, Douglasville, Ga.; five stepgreat-grandchildren; special friend, Kent Copenhaver. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, in the Chapel of the Grubb Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. BASHAM, Joseph Carey, 73, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, March 2, 1996. He was a retired auto salesman. Survivors include three sons, Joe C. Basham Jr. and Terry L. Basham of Richmond, and Glenn Basham of Palmyra; two daughters, Cheryl Ann Trexler of Richmond and Tracie Leigh Basham of Roanoke, and six grandchildren. Graveside will be held at 10:30 a.m Tuesday, March 5, 1996, in Mountain View Cemetery, with the Rev. Frank Feather officiating. Friends may call at Lotz Vinton Chapel after 12 noon Monday.

BOONE, Quentin Alva, 67, of Elliston, formerly of Shawsville, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 2, 1996. Born August 8, 1928, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Collins Boone, Elliston; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Daniel Boone, Elliston, Bob and Sherry Boone, Plum Creek, Chuck and Betty Boone of Maize, Kansas, Sam and Wanda Boone, Shawsville, Ray Boone, Elliston; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jimmy Collins, Elliston; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Patricia Lovern, Shawsville and Nellie Argabright, Check; two very special former daughters-in-law, Joyce (Joy) Boone, Roanoke and Joan Saunders, Salem. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 1996 at Seneca Baptist Church with the Rev. Virgil McHone and Willie Yates officiating. CATRON, Marie Smith, of Saltville, passed away Sunday, March 3, 1996 at the Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va. Long suffering and ever patient, this devoted wife, mother and homemaker is survived by her husband, H.E. ``Jack"" Catron and their son, Jerry W. Catron. Marie is also survived by a sister, Virginia Dare Mitchell, Cleveland, Tenn. and her children, Mrs. Terri Olinger and Larry J. Mitchell; other nieces and nephews also survive. Prior to her debilitating illness, she was an active member of the Main Street Christian Church in Saltville. Funeral services will be conducted at the the Main Street Christian Church 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 1996 with the Rev. Perry Haagan, the Rev. Scott Robertson-Gouge, Lay Reader Edward Small and the Rev. Dan Jividen officiating. Burial will follow at the Mount Rose Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the D.R. CHILTON, Beatrice Craft, 87, of Montvale, passed away Saturday, March 2, 1996, in Bedford County Memorial Hospital. She was born April 26, 1908, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Walter Monroe Craft and Susan Niday Craft. Her husband was the late Wesley Talmadge Chilton. She was a member of Montvale Presby terian Church. She is survived by a son, John Wesley Chilton of Salem; five sisters, Bertha Holland and Eva Ward of Montvale, Estelle Hackworth of Roanoke, and Virgie Arrington and Bonnie Forgie of Bedford, and a granddaughter, Karen Michelle Chilton of Salem. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 1996, from Montvale Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dewey Page and the Rev. J. Harris Stephens. COLLINS, Helen Frances Barton, (``Frances""), 68, of Vinton, lost her battle to cancer but won her victory in Jesus on Sunday, March 3, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Collins Sr.; a daughter, Priscilla Lee; a son, Nathan Eugene; her parents, Jimmy Lou and Hattie Guthrie Barton; sisters, Geneva (``Tootsie"") Catron and Annie Ferguson; brothers, Russell and Billy Barton. DUNCAN, Lesslie Ralph, 82, of Christiansburg, died Saturday evening, March 2, 1996, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Harless and Dorothy Duncan of Olympia, Wash.; three brothers, Edsel P. Duncan of Willis, Alvis B. Duncan of Virginia Beach and Kessley V. FORDHAM, Elizabeth Moore, 68, of 7707 Summerfield Rd., Greensboro, N.C., died Saturday, March 2, 1996 at Wesley Long Community Hospital. She was the widow of the late Woodrow Murray Fordham. Born on November 2, 1927, in Norfolk, Va., Mrs. Fordham was the daughter of the late Matthew P. Moore and Elizabeth Kidd Moore. She was a member of Summerfield United Methodist Church, attended Greensboro Public Schools and the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. At the time of her death, Mrs. Fordham was the President of Fordham's Cleaners Inc. Mrs. Fordham is survived by her brother, John M. Moore and wife, Jacqueline L. Moore of Saluda, Va.; three stepchildren, Rosalind F. Willard of Madison, Anne Baldridge Cox of Roanoke, Va., and Woodrow M. Fordham Jr. and wife, Kathy T. Fordham of Kernersville, N.C.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a devoted companion, Daphne C. Fitzgerald of Summerfield. Mrs. Fordham's funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday, in Summerfield United Methodist Church. Interment services will follow in Greenhill Cemetery. GRIFFIN, Leslie, 65, of Vinton, died Sunday, March 3, 1996. He was a member of Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church. He served in Germany with the activated Texas National Guard 95th Medical Group during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of John A. Wilkerson High School, Belhaven, N.C., and attended Wake Forest University. He opened the Roanoke branch of the Ford Motor Credit Corporation in 1962, and retired with 30 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Annie M. Maxey Griffin; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory Louis and Evelyn Griffin, and Leslie Glenn and Candy Griffin of Roanoke; a daughter and son-in-law, Trina Dare and Douglas John Graham of Salem; three grandsons, Adam Louis Griffin, Hunter John Graham and Casey Griffin Graham; three sisters, Marie Ingalls of Belhaven, N.C., Elsie Respess of Richmond and Angela Grady of Williamston, N.C., and many beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Thrasher Chapel of Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 1996, with the Rev. Wm. Anthony Layman and the Rev. HICKS, Gladys Robertson, 85, of Lynchburg, formerly of Roanoke, died Saturday, March 2, 1996, in a Lynchburg hospital. She was the widow of Ralph S. Hicks. Born in Franklin County on October 6, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin William Robertson and Annie Cook Robertson. During World War II, she served in the Women's Medical Corps. She retired as Deputy Clerk in the Roanoke City Treasurer's Office with 42 years of service. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn Leigh Hicks Urquhart and Steven Urquhart; a daughter, Martha Lynn Hicks; a granddaughter, Erin Leigh Hicks-Rorrer; a brother-in-law, Lawrence D. Dalton; nieces, Denise St. Claire, Carol Robertson Campbell, Gwen Dalton Millner and Diane Tear, and nephews, Bill Robertson and Judge Ralph B. Robertson. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 1996, at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Rivers officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Burial Park. JONES, Nathaniel Monroe, Sr., 85, of Eggleston, died Friday, March 1, 1996, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Born in Eggleston on July 10, 1910, he was a faithful and devoted member of Goodwill Church of God in Christ at Eggleston and served as a Deacon for many years. He retired from the N&W Railway with many years of service. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Surviving are his beloved wife of 63 years, Gladys Wilkerson Jones; one son, Nathaniel Jones Jr. of Fredericksburg; two daughters, Carolyn Harvey of Pembroke and Shirley Farrow of Eggleston; two grandsons, Aaron Jones of Clinton, Md., and McKinley Jones III of Pembroke; two granddaughters, Teresa Jones and Regina Parks of Clinton, Md.; two great-granddaughters, Christina Jones and Jasmine Parks of Clinton, Md., and two sisters, Frances Freeman of Eggleston and Mable Saunders of Cleveland, Ohio. Commander and had a long career as a Registered Nurse retiring from St. Albans Hospital in Radford.
