LEFTWICH LOOKS GOOD FOR ANGELS

Former Radford University pitcher Phil Leftwich made a good showing Sunday in Tempe, Ariz., for the California Angels in their scrimmage game with the Oakland Athletics.

Leftwich, bidding for the fifth spot in the Angels' starting rotation after being injured much of last season, gave up only one hit in two scoreless innings of work as California beat the A's 5-4 in a split-squad game.

Tim Salmon hit a three-run homer and Don Slaught homered to break an eighth-inning tie for the Angels.
