Seven kids from Roanoke Valley elementary schools have been named winners in the American Red Cross Poster Contest. Entrants were asked to draw an original poster showing what the American Red Cross does in their community.
First-place honors in the fourth-fifth-grade division go to Stephanie Lea Carl of G.W. Carver Elementary School. Jay Nelson of West Salem Elementary School is the winner in the second-third-grade division.
Other winners in the fourth-fifth-grade division include Beth Moeller, second; and Jessi Thirston and Kasey Layman, who tied for third place.
Matthew Burgess won second place and Logan Taylor third place in the second-third grade division.
The posters were judged by members of the board of directors and representatives of the of the Roanoke Valley Chapter of the America Red Cross. The posters will be on display at Books-A-Million in Roanoke through March 14. From March 15-31, you can view them at Center in the Square in downtown Roanoke.
