2 HOKIES MAKE ALL-A-10 TEAM

Forward Ace Custis and guard Damon Watlington of Virginia Tech were named to the Atlantic 10 Conference's all-league team announced Monday.

Custis, a 6-foot-7 junior from Eastville, was named to the first team. Custis averaged 13.6 points and 9.8 rebounds for the Hokies.

Watlington, a 6-3 senior from Reidsville, N.C., was selected to the second team. Watlington averaged 13.4 points and led the A-10 in 3-point shooting percentage.

Regular-season champion Massachusetts dominated the balloting as all five of the Minutemen starters made either the first, second or third teams.

Marcus Camby, UMass' 6-11 junior center, was joined on the first team by teammate Donta Bright, a senior forward. Senior guard Kwame Evans of George Washington, sophomore center Marc Jackson of Temple and Custis rounded out the first team.

Camby, who averaged 21.4 points and 8.2 rebounds, was an overwhelming choice as the league's player of the year.

Watlington was joined on the second team by GW center Alexander Koul, guards Carmelo Travieso and Edgar Padilla of UMass, and guard Tyson Wheeler of Rhode Island.

Due to a tie for the final spot, the third team consisted of six players. Included were UMass forward Dana Dingle, forward Romaine Haywood of La Salle, guard Mike James of Duquesne, forward Rashaan Palmer of St. Bonaventure, forward Ryan Perryman of Dayton and forward Reggie Townsend of St. Joseph's.

John Calipari, who led UMass to a 28-1 record and its fifth straight A-10 regular-season title, was named the league's coach of the year for the third time in the past four years. Antonio Reynolds of Rhode Island was selected the league's rookie of the year.
