Home sales in the Roanoke Valley rose a marginal 2 percent in February compared with sales during the same month in 1995, increasing from 317 to 325. But compared with January, the February count was up 31 percent from 248. The Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors said 129 contracts closed last month.
The median price of a home sold in the valley last month was $99,500, up from $93,000 in January, suggesting that more people were trading up rather than buying first homes.
There were 1,894 houses on the market, including 509 added in February.
