ALL-ACC HAS FRESH LOOK TO IT

Tim Duncan of Wake Forest and Todd Fuller of North Carolina State were unanimous picks to The Associated Press all-ACC team Monday, while two freshmen made the squad for the first time in league history.

Harold Deane of Virginia was voted to the second team.

Duncan and Fuller, both 6-foot-11 centers, each received 108 first-team votes, or 324 points, as voted upon by members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Writers Association. It is believed to be the first time two players were unanimous selections.

Stephon Marbury of Georgia Tech and North Carolina's Antawn Jamison, expected to battle for the ACC's rookie of the year award next week, became just the fourth and fifth freshmen to make the first team. Clemson's Skip Wise in 1975, Georgia Tech's Kenny Anderson in 1990 and Maryland's Joe Smith in 1994 are the other three.

Georgia Tech forward Matt Harpring, a sophomore who just missed being the rookie of the year in 1995, rounded out the first team. It was the first time since Anderson and Dennis Scott were named in 1990 that the regular-season champion Yellow Jackets placed two players on the first team. (Complete team in Scoreboard. B3)

Duncan, the preseason player of the year, leads the ACC with 17 double-doubles as a junior, including nine in his last 13 games as the Demon Deacons finished second in the regular season.

Duncan, who leads and ACC in rebounding at 11.5 per game and is second in scoring at 19.2, is also zeroing in on his third straight season of 100 or more blocked shots.

Duncan was the only first-team repeater after Smith, North Carolina's Jerry Stackhouse and Rasheed Wallace - all sophomores - left early for the NBA after last season. Wake Forest's Randolph Childress was also a first-team member a season ago.

Fuller has led the league in scoring from the start, averaging 21.3 points and 10.0 rebounds. He is one of only two players ranked in the top 25 in the country in scoring and rebounding.

Fuller, who has a 3.97 grade point average, is also third in the ACC in field goal percentage (55.5 percent) and second in free throw percentage (81.0 percent).
