Alma Holston, who has served on Pulaski Town Council since 1988, will seek another four-year term in the May 7 elections.
She said she has a positive vision, knowledge and integrity and a proven track record to help lead the town into the next century. On Tuesday, she urged voters to judge candidates on what they have done, rather than on what they say they will do.
Holston, who also served on council from 1980 to 1984, is an assistant to state Sen. Malfourd "Bo" Trumbo, R-Fincastle. She has been chairwoman of the town's Public Operations Committee for eight years, and said the town must address problems with its aging water and sewer lines.
Holston also has served on Virginia's Environmental Policy Committee and Social Service Referral Committee. Last year she was named to the Virginia Municipal League's Legislative Committee.
Locally, she is head of the Youth Emergency Shelter Executive Board, secretary for the area Agency on Aging Executive Board and chairwoman of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Legislative Committee. She also is a member of the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce Legislative Action Committee.
Others seeking re-election in Pulaski are Mayor Andy Graham and council members John Johnston and Roy D'Ardenne. Councilman E.G. "Junior" Black is not seeking a second term.
Candidates had until 7 p.m. Tuesday to file petitions with the local registrar.
Earlier Tuesday, Jim Neblett, Barry Buckner, Polly Mitchell and Charles Stewart Jr. were still circulating petitions.
