CHASED SHOOTING SUSPECT ARRESTED MAN ACCUSED OF ATTEMPTED MURDER

Roanoke police arrested a 22-year-old Petersburg man Tuesday night after a 20-mile chase that started in Bedford County.

Shawn Michael Love is wanted in Prince George County on an attempted-murder charge, said Sgt. Ron Stewart, of that county's police department.

Prince George police received a 911 call about 3:30 p.m. from the home of Love's ex-girlfriend, Sayonara V. McLaughlin.

A witness at the scene told police that Love forced his way into McLaughlin's house, argued with her and then shot her with a handgun, Stewart said. He would not say where she was wounded.

The 22-year-old woman was flown to the Medical College of Virginia and was listed in critical condition.

A Bedford County sheriff's deputy noticed Love's car on the U.S. 460 bypass near Virginia 122 shortly before 10 p.m., Sheriff Mike Brown said. When the car sped up, Brown said, police chased it across Botetourt and Roanoke counties before Love's car struck another at Orange Avenue and Hollins Road in Roanoke. The driver of the car was not injured.

Love and his female passenger, a juvenile, were not seriously injured. They were taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Brown said the driver reached about 80 or 90 mph and weaved in and out of traffic.

Love is also suspected of armed robberies in Amherst County and Lynchburg, Brown said. A gun was found in the car, but the man did not try to use his weapon, the sheriff said.

Roanoke police said Love and the juvenile probably would be held at the city jail after leaving the hospital. The juvenile is not a suspect in the attempted murder but might be wanted in connection with the alleged armed robberies, police said.
