A 67-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by a man as she walked home Thursday night in Old Southwest Roanoke, police said. The woman was treated and released from Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley.
Police gave this account of what happened:
The woman was walking near Sixth Street and Marshall Avenue about 8 p.m. when a man grabbed her by the neck and threw her to the ground. The woman said the man then sexually assaulted her.
Police responded to a 911 call about a man beating a woman. Investigators have not determined who placed the call or where it originated.
When officers arrived at the scene, they saw a man running between two houses at 602 and 604 Marshall Avenue. They were unable to stop him. No arrest has been made.
