RUDD, Willie Eddie, 67, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 1996. Survivors include his wife, Hilda Jackson; five sons, Lavelle R. (Betty), Richmond, Vernon L., U. S. Coast Guard, Detroit, Mi., William A., Michael R. (Becky), both of Roanoke, and Darryl S. Rudd, San Fran cisco, Calif.; two daughters, Valerie L. (Michael) Williams, El Paso, Texas, Sharon V. (Donnie) Brooks, Martinsville; three sisters, Virginia Long, Washington, D.C., Carolyn Henderson, Roanoke, Dorothy (Lovell) Bradford, Elk Grove, Calif.; fifteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one devoted friend, Doug Martin; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Monday, 2 p.m., at Morning Star Baptist Church. The Rev. L. A. Lewis will officiate, with interment in Williams Memorial Park. Franklin, Mary McCraw, 84, of Radford, departed from this life Saturday, March 9, 1996 at Radford Community Hospital. She was born February 23, 1912, the daughter of George and Missouri McCraw. She was a member of the Radford Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one son, Jerry Randolph Franklin. Survivors include, her husband, Rev. Sam Franklin of Radford; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and June Franklin of Radford; four daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Louis Jones of Maryland, Phyllis and Paul Harris of Christiansburg, Wanda and Jim Lawson of Radford, and Cindy Wilson of Christiansburg; one brother, Truman McCraw of Radford; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 11, 1996 at 2:00 p.m. at First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Radford with Dr. Tony Brescia and Pastor Jerry Gibson officiating. GILL, Beulah Nell, 85, of Salem, passed away Saturday, March 9,1996. She was the widow of Joseph A. Gill. She was retired from S. H. Heironimus. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph A. ``Tony"" and Mary M. Gill, Charles W. and Juanita P. Gill; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, George L. Carpenter and wife, Rena; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 11, 1996, at Highland Park Methodist Church, with the Rev. Louis A. Timmons of ficiating. HODGES, Walter Goff, 86, of 128 Trail Dr., Rocky Mount, died Friday, March 8, 1996 in the local hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Hodges and a son, Walter Edward Hodges. Surviving are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Frances Smith, Mary and Sam Rigney Jr., all of Rocky Mount, Betty Ann and Harvey Prillaman, Henry, Susie and Dale Chisom, Rocky Mount; three sons and two daughters-in-law, J. D. Hodges, Carl and Shirley Hodges, Calvin and Glenda Hodges, all of Rocky Mount; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alvie Hall, Rocky Mount, Ruby Hall, Martinsville; four brothers and a sister-in-law, George Atkins, Rocky Mount, Lester Speedy and Mary Hodges, Sydnorsville, Stafford Hodges, Thomasville, Ralph Hodges, Martinsville; special friends, Benji and Tina Hartman and Marvin Spicer. JENKS, Thomas William, II, 44, of Miami, Fla., and formerly of Lexington, Va., died Tuesday, March 5, 1996. He was born on March 18, 1951, in Lexington, a son of Dr. William Alexander and Jane Irving Jenks of Lexington. Mr. Jenks was a graduate of Woodberry Forest School. He graduated from Tulane University with a degree in Architecture, and received his Master of Library Science Degree from Florida State University. Mr. Jenks was head of technical processes at Miami Dade Public Library. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Miami. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Natalee Land Jenks of Miami, and a sister, Mrs. Elaine J. Emerson of Worms, Germany. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 1996, in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery, Lexington, with the Rev. Holmes D. Irving Jr. officiating. JOHNSON, Glenn Hampton, 85, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, March 8, 1996. Mr. Johnson served in the United States Army during World War II, was a member of Oakland Baptist Church, and was a retired automobile mechanic from the former Jamison Avenue and Colonial Avenue Exxon Service Stations. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Nellie Jones Johnson; his daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Johnson Pugh and husband, Larry, Pinehurst, N.C., Patty Johnson Singhass and husband, Scott P., Winchester; his granddaughters, Amie Pugh Yoon and her husband, Jung Dae, Charlotte, N.C., Sydney Louise Singhass, Winchester; a great-grandson, Alex M. Yoon, and a great-grandchild expected soon; his brother, Dennis Thomas Johnson and wife, Mary Callaway; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at Oakey's North Chapel, Monday, March 11 at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Kelly Dampeer, Sr. officiating. Interment in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. LAWSON, Goldie Mae Geiser, 81, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 9, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cawley John Lawson; two infant children, and brothers, Glenn and Clyde Geiser. Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, James J. and Mary Ann Lawson, and Rollman R. (``Scubby"") and Patricia S. Lawson, all of Roanoke; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty L. McDaniel of Roanoke, Alice L. Weigand of Baltimore, Md., Barbara L. and Dennis J. Plunkett of Roanoke, and Nancy L. and William A. Plunkett of Maple, Wis.; eight grandsons; two granddaughters; several great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel by the Rev. Tim Coalter and the Rev. Troy Webb. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. Leary, William Peter, 67, of Smith Mountain Lake, died Friday, March 8, 1996 at his residence. He was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on June 8, 1928, a son of the late Daniel Joseph Leary, and Helena Healey Leary. He was preceded in death by his twin sons, William and Peter Leary. He was a graduate of New England College in Henniker, NH, a U.S. Navy submarine Veteran of World War 11, and was a retired employee of Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in New York City. He resided in New Jersey for thirty years. He spent many years in Old Bridge, NJ with the Boy Scouts and was the leader of an Explorer Post. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus both here and in New Jersey, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a dedicated volunteer of the Smith Mountain Lake Policy Advisory Board and served in various capacities over the past ten years. He as an active member of Resurrection Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Carole A. Leary, sons and daughters-in-law, Sean M. and Ruth Leary, Milltown, NJ, Daniel J., III and Jacqueline Leary, Roanoke, Dennis J. and Brifta Leary, Hawaii, Kevan J. Leary, St. Petersburg, Fl, and Patrick D. Leary, Roanoke, daughters and son-in-law, Erin Leary Stephens, Roanoke, Maryann L. & Keith Leclaire, Freehold, NJ, brothers and sister-in-law, James D. and Mary Leary, Peabody, MA, Brother Nuno Anthony (Daniel J., Jr.) Leary, Cherry Hill, NJ, sister and brother-in-law, Miriam and Paul Dumas, Norfolk, MA; grandchildren, Patrick Stephens, Kelly St ephens, Kevin Leary, and Kelsey Leary. A Christian Wake service will be conducted Monday, March 11, 1996 at 7 p.m., after which the family will receive friends until 9 p.m. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Tuesday, March 12, 1996 at 10:00 a.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church with Rev. LOCHER, Cherry Gundry, 63, of Monett, Mo., passed away at 2:41 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 1996, in Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, Mo., following an extended illness. On January 5, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was born to Jessica Preston and Willoughby Gundry. She was a homemaker. Survivors include a son and his wife, Charles and Michele Locher of Monett, Mo.; her stepfather, Robert Preston of Fincastle, Va.; t hree grandsons, Jason, Preston and Clayton Locher, all of Monett, and three nephews, Devin Moeller of Roanoke, Va., Ronald Moeller of Fort Worth, Texas, and Oren Moeller of Maiden, N.C. Miller, Lawrence Ingram of Blacksburg, died Thursday, March 8, 1996 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Born in Jackson Center, Ohio to the late Lawrence H. and Nellie Ingram Miller. He was a retired professor Emitrus of the Plant Pathology Department at VPI & SU from 1936 to 1980. From 1936 to 1969 he worked at the Tidewater Research Center in Suffolk, and also remained active in research until his death. He was a Marine Corp veteran of WWII; a founding member of the Ruritain Club Holland; in 1960 he received the J. Shelton Horsly Research Award from Virginia Academy of Science; 1966 received Golden Peanut Research Award from National Peanut Council; 1976 elected president of the Society of Nematology; 1987 received the Distinguished Service Award presented by the Potomac Division of American Pathological Society; 1980 elected honorary president of Mexican Society of Nematology and in 1980 retired from VA Tech. Survivors include his wife, Mary McBryde Miller; a son Lawrence I. Miller, Jr. Blacksburg; a daughter, Polly Ashelman, Colonia, NJ; a grandson, Scott Ashelman, Blacksburg; one brother, Hubert Miller, Maryville, OH. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, March 11, 1996 at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Alfred Payne officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home.
