AMERICAN BASS ASSOCIATION VIRGINIA TEAMS: Gaston Lake, March 24; Kerr Lake, April 21; Smith Mountain Lake, May 19; and Lake Moomaw, June 9. Entry fee is $75, plus $25 membership in organization, $55 for youth-adult team; winners can advance to national competition; information from Art King, 804-520-8881.

CAVE SPRING OPTIMIST CLUB FISHING TOURNAMENT: This isn't strictly a bass tournament, but has categories for muskie, crappie, catfish and walleye in addition to largemouth and smallmouth bass. The 28-year-old event is May 3-5 at Foxsport Marina on Smith Mountain Lake. The entry fee is $25 and the payoff has been boosted to $800 for first place in each category. PRO-AM TEAMS: Kerr Lake, March 24; Gaston Lake, April 28; Potomac River, May 19 and Sept.15; and James River, June 22 and Aug.3. The $75 entry fee must include $35 membership. Entering two tournaments qualifies a contestant for Pro-Am Classic Oct. 19-20 at Kerr and Top 50 Tournament Oct. 27 on Kerr. RED MAN: The Piedmont Division held its first tournament March 10 at Kerr Lake. Other division tournaments are scheduled at Gaston Lake, March 31; Potomac River, May 5; Kerr Lake, June 30 and Sept. 15; and James River (Richmond), Aug. 18. TARHEEL TEAMS: The Piedmont Division held its first tournament March 3 on Gaston Lake with the winning team posting a 34-pound catch. Other tournaments are set for Jordan Lake, March 23; Kerr Lake, April 27, May 18 and Aug. 25; Gaston Lake, June 1; and High Rock Lake, July 13. The championship is Sept. 28-29 at Kerr. The entry fee is $165 per tournament. Tarheel also has a Mini Trail, with tournaments at Kerr on April 13, May 4 and July 28 and Gaston on June 2. The entry fee is $55 per team.
