For 23 of her 26 years as an educator, Julianne Holladay has taught at Burlington Elementary School in north Roanoke County. She's worked under the direction of four or five different principals, she said.
But, Holladay is not the only teacher at Burlington with many years of service at the same school.
"There are a lot of us who have been here a long time," she said. "We're a close-knit faculty." The sharing and support she has received from her colleagues helps make her job easier, she added.
And so has the support Holladay says she receives from the parents of the children she teaches. "This is a good neighborhood. The parents really care," Holladay said.
Holladay said in her quarter-decade of teaching she's seen many changes. The curriculum is more difficult and third-graders are expected to know more. That, plus technology, have been the biggest changes.
"She not only makes learning fun, but she makes it interesting and challenging," her nominator said.
Holladay, who has two sons and four grandchildren, enjoys sewing, reading and using her computer.
