THE MARKET DIDN'T CRASH IN ROANOKE

Peter Milward, manager of the Roanoke office of J.C. Bradford & Co.

In the short-term, its amazing to watch what institutional investors will do. Nobody here took part [in the selling]. It's the wrong thing to do.

The report that triggered it was that 700,000 new jobs were created, which is half of the 1.5 million lost in January. [The selling] is just insanity. We just sit here and watch it.

Ryland Hubbard, manager of the Roanoke office of Merrill Lynch

We didn't see very much selling at all today. Selling was a very small part of our business. People have been anticipating a correction for a very long time. The report [that triggered the selling] made no sense and didn't mesh with other economic data we've seen. We think it was a fluke.
