Faculty, staff and students at Virginia Tech still will be able to join the Blacksburg Electronic Village through Tech's modem pool. A story in Saturday's Current made it appear otherwise. People who aren't affiliated with the university will be able to be a part of BEV through other modem pool providers. Those residents who aren't affiliated with Tech but receive Internet access through the university have until July 1 to find other modem pool providers. The university will continue to support community groups and provide a wide range of other BEV services, including BEV home pages on the World Wide Web and BEV mailing lists. For more information, visit the BEV home page at http://www.bev.net/
A headline on a story that ran in last month's Current about a change in ownership of Pargo's restaurants in Christiansburg and Roanoke may have been misleading. The two locations, which were the only two independently owned Pargo's franchises in the country, were sold back to the restaurant's corporate chain.
The Pargo's chain of restaurants is part of Shoney's, Inc.'s casual dining division. The Christiansburg and Roanoke locations will remain as Pargo's restaurants.
Half of a sentence was omitted in Sunday's New River Current article about marketing Virginia Tech. The full section, in context, should have read:
Sutton hired two salespeople who worked for the athletic department's previous contractor - including Steven Braine, son of Athletic Director Dave Braine.
The younger Braine is one of two salespeople posted in Blacksburg, and his boss says he's "hit a few home runs for us." Dave Braine says he'd hire his son himself, if he could. But he distanced himself from contract negotiations, and university officials say the arrangement passes legal muster.
Correction
Falling Branch Elementary School is located in Christiansburg. An article in the Saturday New River Current about the Riner school controversy incorrectly stated Falling Branch's location.
