Prince George County police say they will seek a grand jury indictment next week against a Petersburg man who was accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend and was later arrested in Roanoke after a highway chase.
The man's ex-girlfriend, Sayonara V. McLaughlin, 22, died from her injuries at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond late Sunday, according to Sgt. Ron Stewart of the county's police department.
She had been shot several times by a man who broke into her house. A witness identified Shaun Michael Love as the shooter, Stewart said.
Love, 22, has been in Roanoke City Jail since his arrest March 5 after a 20-mile car chase with police that began in Bedford County. He is charged with the attempted murder of McLaughlin.
Prince George County police would not say Monday what charge they will now seek against Love.
After the shooting, a Lynchburg motel was robbed. Lynchburg police charged Love with robbery, use of a firearm and possession of a firearm as a felon in connection with the motel incident.
A search warrant affidavit filed in Roanoke Circuit Court by state police indicates Love also is a suspect in a motel robbery in Amherst County. It couldn't be determined if he has been charged there.
In connection with the chase, Virginia State Police charged Love with failure to stop for a police officer, reckless driving causing an accident and attempted malicious wounding.
