Pulaski Town Councilman Roy D'Ardenne is citing the power of positive thinking in his bid for a second term.
D'Ardenne said he helped turn the council around after his election four years ago "to think positively" and he wants to help continue building that base. He is president of D'Ardenne Associates Ltd., which helps firms meet international business standards.
"We need to continue the process of installing systems and procedures to ensure our town continues to move forward. This is one of my strengths," he said. "I brought to council a leadership style that addresses problems as opportunities to improve, not chances to ridicule. This style will continue."
He said his voting record shows his commitment to economic development, which is critical to Pulaski.
"Council's real work gets done behind the scenes in committees. This is my strength and preference," he said. "My business background and wide range of community involvement enables me to look at things with a broad, deep knowledge base when making decisions."
D'Ardenne serves on the town's Planning Commission and Architectural Review Board as well as the council's finance, ordinance and human resources committees. He chairs of the human resources committee. He also serves on the New River Valley Planning District Commission and New River Valley Development Commission.
Voters will decide May 7 who will fill the council seats occupied by D'Ardenne, Alma Holston, John A. Johnston and Junior Black. All except Black are seeking re-election. Other candidates are Charles W. Stewart Jr., Barry Buckland, Polly Mitchell and Jim Neblett. Mayor Andy Graham is unopposed.
