Transkrit Corp., a Roanoke business forms printer, is likely to be sold in the next two to three months, its chief executive officer, Frank Neubauer, predicted Monday.
Transkrit, which moved to Roanoke in 1993 from Brewster, N.Y., is owned by Rogers Communications of Toronto, which in 1994 bought Maclean-Hunter Ltd., a Toronto communication conglomerate. Rogers bought Maclean-Hunter for its Ontario cable television operations and previously announced plans to sell off unrelated businesses, including Transkrit.
Rogers Communications has since received 12 or 13 nonbinding bids for Transkrit, and five companies' representatives have toured the plant in the Roanoke Centre for Industry and Technology, Neubauer said. Transkrit has 850 employees, including 250 in the Roanoke area.
Also, the company has added a $2 million press but has reduced its production schedule, a seasonal decline that Neubauer said is in effect almost every February through May or June.
