The Islamic Center of Blacksburg will not be moving to a house on Toms Creek Road.
The organization withdrew its request for a special-use permit that, if granted, would have allowed an information center to be run in a house at 701 Toms Creek Road. The center would have included a library and a computer with Internet access. The Islamic Center of Blacksburg was trying to buy the house, but its owner recently received a better offer from another buyer.
In a letter to the planning and engineering department, Islamic Center Director Sedki Riad said the group would continue to seek "an alternative to fulfill our needs for the center." Currently the group is meeting at Riad's home.
