Henry Mayer, biographer and author of the forthcoming ``All on Fire: William Lloyd Garrison and the Abolition of Slavery,'' will speak on the challenge of writing biographies set during the American Revolution on Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Emory & Henry College's Wiley Hall auditorium, Emory. Roanoke College lecture

The Renaissance-Reformation Faculty Group at Roanoke College is presenting a lecture, ``Jesuit Missionary Strategies in Japan,'' on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Sutton Student Center Ballroom, Roanoke College.

The speaker, Joan O'Mara, is professor of art history, primarily in Japanese and Chinese art , at Washington and Lee University.
