Motley + Associates, a Roanoke architectural, interior design and planning firm, has won the Virginia Department of Education's annual award for new elementary school design.
The firm was cited for the Kipps Elementary School in Blacksburg in the Montgomery County school system. The school was recognized for its functional plan, design aesthetics, community use and response to the technology environment in Blacksburg.
Motley + Associates earlier won three statewide awards for the Kipps Elementary design from the Virginia Municipal League and Virginia School Boards Association and last year a first place in the religious and institutional category from the Virginia Masonry Council.
"What we are most proud of is that the schools have been constructed within statewide cost averages for school construction," said Ben Motley, president of the architecture firm.
"Good design doesn't have to cost more," Motley said. "We use durable, cost-effective materials in a creative way to create a pleasant learning environment for students, teachers and the community at large."
