Virginia police have arrested a Massachusetts man in connection with the slaying of an elderly flower deliveryman whose bludgeoned body was found in a Sturbridge cemetery.
Karl E. Demerski, 28, of Holland, Mass., was arrested late Wednesday after he stepped off a bus in Richmond, Va. He was sitting in the bus terminal at the time and did not resist arrest, according to Sgt. Patrick Sedillo of Virginia State Police.
Massachusetts authorities tipped off Virginia authorities about Demerski's travel plans and his description.
Demerski, who told police he is a cook, was arrested on a Massachusetts murder warrant and agreed to be returned there immediately.
The body of Roger A. Dube, 68, of Sturbridge, was found late Wednesday in St. Anne's Cemetery about 12 hours after the florist's van he had been driving turned up behind the tiny library in Holland, less than 10 miles away.
Dube was known locally for his gentle manner and volunteer work. - Associated Press
