The European branch of R. Frazier Inc., a Salem recycling company, has won a contest on a Scottish television show, one of that nation's most popular programs.
Frazier, which recycles computers, communication equipment and other electronic gear, collected a $15,000 first-place prize from producers of "The Business Game," which is unlike anything broadcast in the United States.
"We're very proud," owner Randy Frazier said Friday. The honor has meant lots of free advertising for the division and given it a major boost of credibility overseas, he said.
The Bank of Scotland and the Scottish Enterprise, a business association, are the hosts of the competition and hand pick businesses to present their strategy for growth to a national television audience in weekly episodes over three months.
A panel of business leaders and academicians judged R. Frazier's strategy best Dec. 15.
R. Frazier's story included how revenue for its European division, based in Dumfries, Scotland, has grown from $350,000 in 1993 to $7 million last year and employment has risen from 20 to 105.
