Christian unity
Four church leaders will address the National Workshop on Christian Unity May 6-9 in Richmond. It will be at the Richmond Marriott, and registration is open with a reduced rate of $105 through April 1.
The keynoters for the meeting, "Listen! I Stand at the Door and Knock," are Bishop Walter F. Sullivan, Bishop Philip R. Cousin, the Rev. Dr. Peggy Way and the Rev. Dr. Barbara Brown Zikmund.
Sullivan, bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Richmond, will preach at the opening Monday night assembly. The following morning at 9, Cousin will be heard; he is presiding bishop of the First Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Way, ordained in the United Church of Christ and a professor at Eden Theological Seminary, will lead Bible study Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 9. Zikmund, also a United Church of Christ minister and on the faculty of Hartford Theological Seminary, will give the closing address at noon on Thursday.
The conference will include several meetings of special interest to church professionals. It is sponsored by several denominational groups with the Virginia Council of Churches the host. For more information call (804) 643-3400.
Health fair April 14
Rocky Mount Seventh-day Adventist Church will sponsor a Health Fair with a number of tests to help prevent disease. Lectures on "natural remedies," chiropractic treatment, stopping smoking and other topics will be held at intervals from April 14 through 30 at the Adventist school in Rocky Mount. Registration open
Registration is open for summer programs at Camp Hat Creek, a ministry of Presbytery of the Peaks of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). The center, which is south of Lynchburg, offers supervised activities for children and youth from mid-June through mid-August. Reduced rates are in effect if reservations are made before June 3. Activities include canoeing on the James River, ropes courses and "night owl" sessions. For more information, call Liz Wynn at (804) 845-1754.
Sunrise service
The 50th annual Easter sunrise service at Natural Bridge in Rockbridge County north of Roanoke will begin on April 7 at 7. The free service is non-denominational in style and this year will be led by the Rev. D.B. Martin, pastor of Natural Bridge Baptist Church, and the Rev. Paul Carter of Grace Presbyterian Church in Lexington. Music will be by an ensemble from James Madison University. Grounds will be open from 6:30 a.m. The bridge is about an hour from Roanoke on U.S. 11.
