CHILDREN'S HOME NAMES DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

JESSE E. KENT has been named director of development and communications at Virginia Baptist Children's Home & Family Services based in Salem. Before joining the children's home, Kent was executive vice president for Carilion Property Management. He also is one of the founding members of the Roanoke Chapter of the National Society of Fund-raising Executives.

Virginia Baptist Children's Home & Family Services operates regional centers in Annandale, Fredericksburg, Newport News and Richmond.

ADVERTISING

JAMES E. COLLIER and TAMARA R. HARRIS have joined The Packett Group, a Roanoke advertising agency. Collier has been named vice president and director of strategic planning and business development. He previously was vice president and marketing manager of Richmond-based Sanders Consulting Network, a national consulting firm to advertising agencies. Harris joins the agency as senior media planner. She had been media director at The Maddox Agency in Roanoke.

KRISTINE MILLER has joined The Robert Claiborne Agency in Roanoke as an associate art director. In this position, she will be responsible for creative services including art direction and graphic design. She comes to the agency from The Roanoke Times, where she was a graphic designer.

AUTOMOTIVE

CHARLES M. ROBERTSON JR. has been elected president and general manager of Magic City Ford auto dealership in Roanoke. WILLIAM W. JOHNSON succeeds HARRY G. JOHNSON JR. as chairman of the board.

BANKING

SANDRA F. DAWSON has been named consumer loan officer at Piedmont Trust Bank in Martinsville, a subsidiary of MainStreet BankGroup Inc.

DANIEL W. PIZZULLO has joined First American Corp., the Nashville, Tenn.-based parent company of First American Federal Savings Bank in Roanoke, as vice president and financial planning specialist for the company's AmeriStar investments and trust division. He has more than 19 years of experience in the financial services industry, most recently in private practice in Roanoke.

CHAPMAN L. HUFFMAN has been named vice president of agricultural loans at Bank Services of Virginia in Oak Level. Also, STEVEN M. MOSES SR. has been promoted to vice president of commercial loans at the company, which is a service organization for Patrick Henry National Bank, First National Bank of Rocky Mount, Peoples National Bank, Community National Bank, Blue Ridge Bank, Patriot Bank and the Mortgage Co. of Va.

COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

DONNA L. MITCHELL, account vice president at PaineWebber, ELIZABETH W. PAYNE, professor emeritus and director of microcomputer studies at Virginia Western Community College, LEN BOONE, president of Boone & Co. Realtors, and WILLIAM H. FRALIN JR., partner in the law firm of Jolly Place Fralin & Prillaman, have been appointed to the Virginia Western Community College Educational Foundation board of directors. Mitchell will also preside as vice president of the foundation.

FINANCIAL SERVICES

LEON A. "CHIP" LACKEY JR. has joined Wheat First Butcher Singer as a registered financial consultant for the private client group in the firm's Martinsville branch office. Before joining Wheat First, Lackey was a senior bank executive with Piedmont Trust Bank, lead bank of MainStreet Inc. based in Martinsville. BRIAN KUHENS has joined Wheat First as a financial consultant in the firm's Galax branch office. He is the former owner and vice president of Wordsprint, a commercial printing firm.

FOOD SERVICE

WAYNE BOBBIT has joined the Quality Coffee Co. in Roanoke as service manager. He brings to the company 20 years of experience in the coffee and food service industry, most recently as a service technician at PYA-Monarch.

HEALTH CARE

PAT NEWBERRY WHITCOMB has been promoted to assistant vice president of business operations at Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem. She will be responsible for managing the business division of the center, which includes the admitting, registration and patient accounting departments. She joined Lewis-Gale as a patient accounts supervisor in 1987.

INSURANCE

MARY ANN H. PELTIER has been named vice president and chief actuary at Shenandoah Life Insurance Co., based in Roanoke. Peltier comes to Shenandoah Life from Chubb Life Insurance Co. of America, where she was senior vice president and corporate actuary.

JENNIFER STAKER of the Roanoke office of Acordia of West Virginia, based in Charleston, has been promoted to vice president.

MANUFACTURING

Bassett Mirror Co. Inc. has elected SPENCER WOOD MORTEN III president and chief executive officer. He succeeds WILLIAM BASSETT MORTEN, who resigned in December.

Spencer Morten, who joined the company in 1977, most recently was senior vice president and chief marketing officer. He has been interim president since December.

The company also named RON RABATSKY vice president of sales and merchandising. He formerly was a buyer for May Department Stores Co. Before joining Bassett Mirror in 1995, he was a sales representative for the company in Dallas.

ALLEN L. DAHL of Blue Ridge has been named an authorized dealer for Appalachian Log Structures Inc., a log house manufacturer based in Ripley, W.Va.

REAL ESTATE

JENNIFER LINDSEY, DAVE SAUNDERS and MARK WHITE have joined the sales staff of Overby, Ailstock & Body Inc. in Roanoke, Lindsey and Saunders as agents and White as a broker. All three previously worked at HCMF Real Estate & Housing Management Corp.
